Celebrating 40 years in the trade.

Let us introduce you to our Repair Technician Lawrence, who this week is celebrating 40 years in the Optical trade.

I left school on Friday 26th May 1977 and started work on Monday 29th May with a company called Calidine Bradley Mayer (CBM) as a machine operator in their molding department working on frames similar to optyl. CBM is also where I met my late wife Lorraine. In March 1978 I moved on to Kent Optic starting out as an apprentice frame maker, I was lucky enough to be taught hand made frame's from Cliff Saunders who was nearing retirement who had been in the trade 50 years plus starting with the old NHS frames 524 which was a common sight back then. In total I worked for Kent Optics for 28 year's I was promoted to manager of Glass glazing and repairs then taking over the rimless department for the last eight Year's. In August 2006 I said goodbye and followed a few colleagues to PKP Optics.
